But what horse to back in the Cox Plate betting markets?
Two of the traditional Cox Plate lead-up races are the Group 1 Yalumba Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield a fortnight before and the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) also held at Caulfield but in September.
Watch for the winners and placegetters in these earlier Melbourne Spring Carnival events as a guide to your Cox Plate bets.
Also note that Cox Plate betting historically doesn’t favour the favourites except when they are in odds-on territory, horses that start at the top of the markets paying under $2 boasting an impressive Win Rate of just under 70%.
